Deputy shot & killed armed robber
There was a gun scare on a school bus in Maricopa. Several reports yesterday of a 6th grader bringing a gun aboard a school bus, heading to Sequoia Pathway Academy. Parents were shocked to hear from their children as a student dropped what appeared to be a firearm on the school bus. One parent wrote, “My kids came home crying because a student (6th grade) boarded the bus with a gun.” She added, “Sequoia Pathway is refusing to speak on the matter…”
It was later discovered that the gun in question was, in fact, a replica – a toy. And Sequoia Pathway Academy admins sent out texts to parents in regards to the situation.
They stated, “At no time during the incident were students in danger.”, in the text.

While this is obviously upsetting for all parents, the incident was apparently a false alarm. However, as stated in the statement released to parents by the Sequoia Pathway Academy administrations, it does indeed bring to the forefront the importance of dialoging with children of the dangers of bringing such items to school. Knives, guns and other weapon, real or toys, should remain at home. Such incidents put the offending child in danger as well.
This comes at a time when school violence, especially schools shootings, seem to be a regular occurrence in the US. The recent mass murder at the Robb Elementary School in Uvalde County on May 24, in which nineteen children and two adults were killed, is still fresh in everyone’s thoughts. It is the deadliest shooting ever at a Texas public school and certainly one of the saddest in the nation.
