Eastbound Interstate 10 to close
Welcome to Maricopa – what’s that smell?
As the Sonoran Desert Parkway project progresses, there are some required road closures in order for construction to continue, like the Farrell Road Closure Starting on August 22. Farrell Road between North Pepper Place and Porter Road as well as a section of Porter Road between Santa Rosa Drive and just south of Farrell Road will be closed starting on August 22 and will remain closed until the summer of 2023. When it reopens, this stretch will be the first leg of the Sonoran Desert Parkway which is slated to connect to the I-10 freeway once fully completed.
A route will be opened for emergency services so they can continue during this closure.

During construction of the Sonoran Desert Parkway and Porter Road Bridge, Santa Rosa Springs residents will have only one entrance and exit point to the neighborhood (across the tracks on Porter Road). This project and the future phases of the development will solve that issue by creating an appropriate secondary access point.
A low-water crossing will allow current residents to cross through the adjoining neighborhood to access the Sonoran Desert Parkway during non-storm events. The new Porter Road bridge will allow for access over the wash, and provide secondary access out of the neighborhood in the event that the rail crossing is blocked.
Understanding that emergency access to Santa Rosa Springs will be limited during the closure, our teams have created a temporary emergency access road. It may be only used by first responders during an unexpected extended closure. The road is gated and utilizes private property. It can only be accessed when deemed necessary by public safety officials. If residents have an emergency during this period, they are urged to dial 911.
