Teen Arrested With Loaded Gun At Casa Grande School – Casa Grande Theft Auto is living up to it’s nickname again this week. On Thursday, just before noon, school officials at Casa Grande Union High School were notified of a potential threat on campus. A student had reported to the principal that 18-year-old Kyren Lee Antone, who is listed as a student at the school, had shown them a loaded gun in his backpack. The Casa Grande Police Department (CGPD) was immediately notified and responded to the scene.
According to court paperwork, Antone had told officials that he had forgotten the gun was in his backpack and had no intention of using it on campus. However, school security quickly separated Antone from the general student population and took custody of the backpack. The CGPD then took custody of the weapon and Antone himself.

Upon further investigation, the police discovered that the weapon was a handgun with an extended magazine, containing several rounds of ammunition. It was noted, however, that there were no bullets in the chamber. The CGPD also stated that there was no indication of a threat or any display of the weapon while Antone was at the school.

In a statement to officials, Antone said that he kept the gun for his own protection, as he had been jumped a couple of weeks ago. This reasoning, however, did not excuse his actions and a charge of misconduct with a weapon will be forwarded to the Casa Grande City Attorney’s Office for review.
Incidents of gun violence in schools have unfortunately become a regular occurrence in recent years. As of Dec. 20, 2022, there were 300 shooting incidents on school grounds so far in 2022, compared to 250 in 2021 and 114 in 2020, according to the publicly-accessible K-12 School Shooting Database. A decade earlier, 2010 saw 15 school shootings.
Of those 300 incidents in 2022, there were a total of 51 school shootings resulting in deaths and injuries. These statistics serve as a harsh reminder of the need for stricter gun control laws and better measures to ensure the safety of students and faculty in educational institutions. It is also crucial for students and staff to report any suspicious behavior or potential threats to the proper authorities in order to prevent potentially dangerous situations from escalating.
